Well, let me tell ya, I heard some things about the sun and dyin’, sounds kinda scary if you ask me. Them smart folks, the sci-en-tists, they say the sun ain’t gonna last forever. Can ya believe it? That big ol’ ball of fire up there, it’s gonna fizzle out, just like an old lamp.
They say in a few billion years, yeah, you heard that right, billion with a “B”, that sun of ours is gonna start changin’. It’s gonna puff up like a toad, get all red and angry-lookin’. They call it a “red giant”, sounds like somethin’ outta a fairy tale, don’t it? But it ain’t no fairy tale, I tell ya.
Now, they say this red giant sun, it’ll get so big, it might just swallow up everything near it. Poor Earth, won’t stand a chance. But don’t you go losin’ sleep over it, this ain’t happenin’ tomorrow, or next year, or even in your grandkids’ grandkids’ lifetime. It’s gonna take a good long while, about 5 or 6 billion years, they say. That’s a lot of winters and summers, more’n I can count, that’s for sure.
- First, the sun, it’s burnin’ somethin’ called hydrogen.
- When it runs outta that stuff, it starts swellin’ up, gets all red and angry.
- Then, it kinda shrinks back down, turns into a “white dwarf.”
This white dwarf, it’s like the embers after a fire dies down. Still hot, but not like it used to be. And then, slowly but surely, it just cools off, fades away. Kinda sad, ain’t it? Like an old friend passin’ on.
But before all that happenin’, that sun’s gonna be at its hottest in about 8 billion years. Imagine that! Hotter than a summer day in July, hotter than anything we’ve ever felt. Makes you wonder how anything could survive, but like I said, we won’t be around to see it. Makes you think, don’t it? Everything has an endin’ , just like us folks.
I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout cards too, somethin’ called “Death and Sun Cards.” Sounds spooky, but they say it ain’t always about dyin’. Sometimes, it’s just about things endin’, like a job, or a relationship. And endin’s ain’t always bad, sometimes they make way for new beginnings. Like when a flower dies, it leaves behind seeds for new flowers to grow. Life’s like that, always changin’, always movin’ on.
So, when you think about that sun dyin’, don’t just think about the end. Think about all the warmth and light it gave us, all the years it let us live and grow. And remember, even when things end, somethin’ new always comes along. That’s just the way of the world, always turnin’.
Now, I ain’t no scientist, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But I reckon this sun dyin’ thing, it’s just part of the big circle of life. Everything’s born, lives a while, and then fades away. It’s the way it’s always been, and the way it’ll always be. Just gotta make the most of the time we got, that’s what I say.
